Cervical cancer screening
Overall, about 2 out of every 100 cancers diagnosed in women (2%) are cervical cancers. But it is the most common cancer in women under 35 years old.
- Bleeding between periods
- Bleeding after sex
- Bleeding after the menopause
- Vaginal discharge
- Discomfort or pain during sex
There are many other more common causes for these symptoms, so you probably don’t have cancer, but an examination and tests are necessary to find the cause.
Screening Smear And HPV Test
Cervical screening is very important because we can stop cervical cancer from developing in the first place. This is one of the few cancers that is preventable because abnormal cell changes can be picked up before they have a chance to develop into a cancer.
We offer you a Cervical Smear HPV Test. HPV is a wart virus which is associated with cancer of the cervix and can be looked for on the smear test. If the HPV test is positive, the smear will be checked for abnormal cells (cervical cytology). We can also offer HPV testing plus cervical cytology for those who would like the cells checked irrespective of the HPV result.
HPV wart vaccination
We offer two different injections that help protect against some diseases caused by different types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV):
GARDASIL 9 helps protect against cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers in females, anal cancer, certain head and neck cancers, such as throat and back of mouth cancers and genital warts in both males and females.
It contains the same 4 HPV types (6, 11, 16, 18) as in GARDASIL with 5 additional HPV types (31, 33, 45, 52, 58).
